Is it just me, or were you guys a little shocked after graduating nursing school realizing how many CEUs you needed annually, AND the chaos that accompanies license and certification renewal? Same. Like, I try my best to print out my CEUs as I get them, and then I stick them in my office…somewhere…and end up finding them 5 years later crumpled up when they’re worth nothing. The first time renewing my nursing license was chaotic and stressful, and I would always forget when it was due to be renewed cause like, who thinks to remember that.
Luckily, I came across this app called Nurse Backpack, where you can keep track of all your nursing shit. You can upload photos and expiration dates for your nursing license and certifications, like your CCRN (which, if you aren’t certified here‘s why you should be). So you just enter all your stuff into this app and boom. Your phone will remind you two months and then one month before they expire. So you dont have to worry about your reminder letter getting lost in the mail from the oh-so-reliable BRN.
You can also keep track of your job history and active memberships like with AACN, and any honors or awards with dates – if that helps you with resume-building. It’s so annoying to be editing your resume and having to think back in time of, “when did I get that again?” or “how long was I at that job?” Ugh. No thanks.
Also on this app you can select different job interests if you’re looking for a new job. Nurse Backpack creates a resume for you easily with everything you’ve added to your profile. Travel nurses can also add which agencies and hospitals they’ve worked at and for how long. You can send any of your documents to a manager, recruiter, whoever… right from this app.
So instead of scrambling through piles of paperwork in your office a week before your license expires, have access to your expiration dates and all that extra nursey stuff in one safe place that’s always on you. We work hard enough as nurses, our time shouldn’t be spent panicking on our days off trying to organize paperwork. As a perk, you can also get 5 bucks for referring 5 friends once you download the app and send them your code. Best part is that the app is free.
